Caramelised Speculaas Bananas

Caramelised Speculaas Bananas

Try this delicious caramelised banana with Speculaas spice blend (True cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom and white pepper)

Serves:1 person


  • 4 bananas
  • 4 tablespoons (45 grams) butter
  • 1/4 cup soft brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Equagold Speculaas spice
  • 1/4 cup rum (or orange juice)
Optional You can add 1/4 cup toasted, roughly chopped nuts of your choice at the end or sprinkle some hazelnut-praline-candy-crunch   



  1. Peel and slice the bananas in lengthways
  2. Place the butter, speculaas spice and the brown sugar in a large non-stick frying pan.
  3. Place on medium heat for 2 minutes or until they have dissolved together and start to bubble.
  4.  Fry the banana slices on both sides for I minute
  5. Adding Juice? Simply add at the same time as the bananas (even add some grated rind)
  6. Adding Rum? Remove the pan from the heat and add the rum to the pan. Return the pan to the heat ignite the alcohol in the rum  (hold a match /lighter flame as close to the liquid as possible) and let the alcohol burn off, as soon as the flames disappear
